SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Doctors delivered the baby of a 37-year-old woman who was involved in a serious car crash at a Scottsdale intersection Monday night.

The woman was riding in the front passenger seat of a silver Honda Accord driven by her 16-year-old son when it was T-boned by a red Buick at the intersection at Hayden Road and Roosevelt Street about 6 p.m., according to Officer Dave Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department.

There were also five children in the car, including the woman's three daughters, ages 4, 11 and 13, and an 11-year-old girl and her 13-year-old sister, who were family friends, Pubins said.

The woman and the 4-year-old girl had to be extricated and suffered the most serious injuries, and five people in the Honda and the driver of the Buick were taken to a hospital, Pubins said.

The mother was recovering from the emergency surgery and the baby was delivered with some minor complications, Pubins said.

Scottsdale investigators said all the Honda passengers were believed to have been wearing seatbelts, though four of the five children appeared to have been sharing two seatbelts.

He said the driver of the Buick was in police custody and that alcohol might have been a factor in the crash.

The intersection was closed for five hours during the investigation, Pubins said.

About 30 firefighters and Scottsdale police officers responded to the crash, Pubins said.
