Cincinnati, OH -
CINCINNATI (FOX19) – It took Butch Jones the better part of a week to find a new job at Tennessee. UC found his replacement in a little more than 24 hours. Tommy Tuberville comes to Cincinnati after three seasons at Texas Tech but built his reputation on ten mostly winning seasons in the SEC conference at Auburn.
He was introduced Saturday night in front of fans and his future players at Fifth Third Arena on the UC Campus.
"I'm going to get questions, why did you come to Cincinnati? I want to help Bearcat Nation take that next step forward. That next step to what we can do to be better every day, as a group and as a university," said Tuberville.
UC Athletic Director Whit Babcock said it was important for UC to move fast. Tuberville expressed his intention to stay at UC longer than the Bearcats previous three coaches.
"It wasn't I'll give you my word I'll stay, it was something along the lines of, if I come up there you can count on me to stay," said Babcock.
Tuberville will not coach the Bearcats in the Belk Bowl.
He signed a five year contract, terms of which are not yet known.
