Using a walker for support, Mayor Cedric Glover returned to Government Plaza late Wednesday following his release Monday evening from Christus Schumpert Medical Center.
Staffers greeted the mayor, who seriously injured both legs during a slip-and-fall accident on Oct. 3. But, according to a release from the mayor's office, the hugs and kisses were cut short as he faced a stack of documents awaiting his signature.
Glover spent the last several weeks working from his hospital room, participating in conference calls and using his laptop and Blackberry to conduct business, respond to e-mails and make assignments. The mayor says he is eager to discuss the 2013 budget, which is set for final approval next week by the Shreveport City Council.
Mayor Glover also says he is optimistic that voters will support the sales tax renewal for fire and police services at the polls on Saturday and that council members will continue to fund the successful summer jobs program that employs hundreds of youth all over the city.
The mayor spent Tuesday readjusting to his surroundings and establishing a routine associated with his outpatient care. He will also spend several hours each week in physical therapy as he recovers from the Oct. 15 surgery to repair his ruptured quadriceps tendons. He says he will balance his physical therapy with his plans to attend critical council meetings as needed.
