Sonny Dykes named Cal Football Coach

Posted: Updated:

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA-TV) - It's official, Sonny Dykes will be trading in the red and blue of Louisiana Tech for the navy and gold of Cal.  Amid speculation of many other coaching positions, Dykes will officially be introduced by Cal on Thursday afternoon at 12 p.m.

Dykes finishes his tenure at Louisiana Tech with a 22-15 overall record including seasons of 5-7, 8-5 and 9-3 in 2012.  This past season the Bulldogs finished the season as the top offense in the nation averaging over 51.5 points a game and just under 575 total yards per contest.

The details of Dykes' contract have not been finalized, but will be released once they are approved by the UC Board of Regents.

Here is a statement from Louisiana Tech Athletic Director Bruce Van De Velde:

"We can confirm that Sonny Dykes has resigned tonight as the head coach of Louisiana Tech. We want to thank him and his family for the past three years and wish them the best in the future. We will move meticulously and expeditiously in our search for our next head coach."
