Christmas Tree Care
Choosing a fresh Christmas tree is fun for the entire family! The Christmas trees at Clegg's Nursery are premium Fraser Fir and Noble Fir trees. Both of these trees feature sturdy branches that hold ornaments well. They have outstanding needle retention, uniform shape and excellent fragrance. Fraser Fir trees are grown in the mountains of North Carolina. Noble Fir trees are grown in Washington.
Some dropping of older, interior needles is natural and normal for fresh Christmas trees. However, if the overall color is faded or the green exterior needles fall off easily at a gently touch, the tree may be excessively dry. If this is the case, select a different tree.
Caring for your real tree is easy. The most important thing to remember is that real trees need water daily. Never let your tree stand become dry.
Before the tree is placed into the stand, make a fresh, straight cut across the base of the tree – about a quarter of an inch above the original cut. All of the trees at Clegg's Nursery are freshly cut before placing the tree into the stand. The stand should be filled with water within 3 hours of making the cut to allow the tree to begin taking up water.
Refill the water in the stand daily. The tree can absorb as much as a gallon of water in the first 24 hours and then one quart of water daily after that.
In addition, place your tree away from heat and dry drafts such as fireplaces and hot air vents. Be sure to unplug lights before you go to bed or leave the house.
A well cared for Christmas tree can last 4 to 6 weeks, adding a festive spirit to your home.
