WASHINGTON (AP) -
Gov. Jan Brewer's office still isn't saying what she's doing on what's called a weeklong work trip outside the state, but it does confirm she visited a wounded Arizona soldier at a Washington-area hospital.
Brewer visited Army combat medic Mason Steill at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, on Monday.
Brewer left the state Sunday and is to return Saturday. She was absent from the state's general election canvass on Monday.
Brewer spokesman Matthew Benson said he wouldn't provide additional information on her trip at this time.
Steill's grandmother is Candace Steill. The Maricopa County employee said the visit by Brewer the arranged Friday and that it thrilled her 22-year-old grandson from Chandler. The grandson was wounded in Afghanistan in June.
