TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -
Two teens accused of throwing a 5-pound brick off an interstate overpass and seriously injuring a Tuscaloosa woman appeared in court this week.
Both Adam Shane Herren and Jordan Isaiah Price have been charged as adults with first degree assault. Court records divulge what kind of injuries the victim, Melissa Jones, 46, sustained and why police believe the two teens are responsible.
Herren told officers that he and Price had been hanging out in a vacant lot that Sunday afternoon. He says Price picked up a brick and mentioned that it would spark if dropped on the interstate.
Herren says they dropped a brick from the overpass. That one he says didn't hit a car and it didn't cause any sparks.
Herren said he felt that the next time around Price was planning to aim for a vehicle so he left the bridge. Herren told police he heard a crash before the two ran to their car.
The investigator said Herren told investigators that Price was laughing because he had hit a vehicle.
That same night in a video-taped statement Price told investigators that the two were not responsible.
He said they were at a friend's house and that he had not been on the bridge in years.
Homicide investigators confiscated Price's phone and found that someone had searched the questions "are lie detectors accurate?" and "how long is a prison sentenced for attempted murder?"
Someone also searched for a newspaper story about the incident and emailed it to one of Price's friends according to the investigator's testimony.
They also found text messages on the phone written to Price's friends denying that he committed the crime and stating that he was being framed.
Police also say they found footprints in the mud that they believe matched the size and tread of Price's sneakers.
They also spoke to a truck driver whose was hit by a cinderblock, allegedly dropped from the overpass minutes before Jones' vehicle was hit and to the truck driver who came to Jones' aid.

Police say the driver drove in both lanes to keep traffic at a distance so Jones' 14-year-old son could pull their vehicle off the road.
At the end of the hearing the judge found probable cause to continue prosecution of Herren and Price.
