GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Greer woman was arrested Monday after deputies said her 5-week-old granddaughter died two weeks ago.
Greenville County deputies said they were called to a house on Jordan Road on the morning of Nov. 13 after the parents found the infant in between cushions of a couch and her grandmother, identified as 50-year-old Debra Slacks, asleep beside her.
Deputies said an investigation revealed that Slacks took responsibility for the child after she had been drinking. They said that Slacks fell asleep, and the infant slipped from her arms and between the cushions.
Slacks was charged with unlawful neglect of a child.
If convicted, Slacks could face up to 10 years in prison.
