CPSO: Money flies from car windows as authorities bust counterfeit deal

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A counterfeit money transaction that law enforcement authorities busted up Tuesday led to a car chase with money thrown from car windows, a foot chase and the arrest of five suspects at Mall St. Vincent.

Authorities with the Caddo-Shreveport Narcotics Unit say they were acting on a tip from the Louisiana State Patrol when they closed in on the east side of Mall St. Vincent and apparently surprised five people conducting a transaction involving counterfeit money.

As law officers moved in, three people jumped into a car and sped off through the mall parking lot. In a scene reminiscent of bank heists gone wrong, authorities say the men in the car began throwing the counterfeit money out of the car window while still in the mall parking lot.

Authorities stopped the car at the intersection St. Vincent Avenue and Kings Highway.

Meanwhile, two of the men involved at the scene ran on foot from authorities.

All five men were caught. Authorities say three of them were from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. One of them is a juvenile. They are likely to be charged with possession of counterfeit money.

Federal authorities from the U.S. Secret Service, which has jurisdiction over counterfeit money issues, are on their way, Caddo deputies say.
