NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) -
One of the
seven people arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of two sheriff's deputies
and the wounding of two others no longer faces charges.
Teniecha
Bright, 21, of LaPlace was charged with principal to attempted first-degree
murder of a police officer after four deputies with the St. John the Baptist
Sheriff's Office were shot in August.
Authorities
are still holding her as a material witness.
There are
also developments involving another suspect in the case.
According
to WWL in New Orleans, Chanel Skains, 37, of LaPlace pleaded guilty Monday to
accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder.
She will be
sentenced at a later date.
Five others
still face charges in the deaths of deputies Brandon Nielsen and Jeremy Triche.
Deputies Jason Triche and Michael Boyington II were wounded.
Kyle David
Joekel, 28, of LaPlace is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, three
counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and one count of
principal to attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.
WWL reports
he pleaded not guilty Monday to the attempted murder and principal to attempted
murder charges. He has previously pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.
Brian Lyn
Smith, Brittney Keith, Terry Smith and Derrick Smith also face charges in the
shootings.
Another
hearing in the case is scheduled for Dec. 14.
