TUCSON, AZ (AP) -
A Tucson man who was convicted of abusing his incapacitated girlfriend by failing to care for her has been sentenced to 1 1/2 years in prison.
Christopher Joseph Lopez pleaded guilty in October to vulnerable adult abuse/domestic violence. The Arizona Daily Star reports the 48-year-old man was sentenced Thursday.
Authorities say Lopez's girlfriend was incapacitated by a stroke about 10 years ago and he was being paid by the state to care for her.
Prosecutors said that in early February, a neighbor found the woman on the floor covered in feces and urine. The woman told police she had been on the floor for about three weeks but declined to cooperate with prosecutors and went home with Lopez.
Authorities were called to the couple's home again following a dispute and found the woman in her own waste.
