ETHEL, LA (WAFB) -
Nearly two dozen cats were found near Ethel, LA Monday morning by a volunteer animal lover in the area. They had been shot by a .22 caliber rifle and most were dead by Wednesday.
An outraged animal lover community is up in arms offering a reward to anyone with any information about the killings that occurred near the end of Butler lane off highway 955 between Saturday evening and Monday morning.
Lori D-Arensbourg who was among the volunteers that cared for the cats is outraged. "I found it really hard to believe that we live in a community with people this vile and this cruel," says an upset D-Arensbourg. "How could people do this to helpless animals? It makes me tear up every time I think about it."
The twenty or so cats were left there by the former renter at the home on Butler Lane. D-Arensbourg says the cats were very friendly when she would take them food. She was devastated when she heard the news. Several of the cats had been shot in the eye others in the rectum. She says she knows of no reason why someone would have done this.
D-Arensbourg and some of her fellow volunteers are asking for any information leading to the arrest of the cat killer. If you have any information, you are asked to contact the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office at 225-683-8572.
