JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Members of the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation into the Jackson plane crash that killed three pilots Tuesday evening.
The pilot, John Tilton, was flying with passengers WC Young and David Williams. All three were killed when the Piper PA-32 Cherokee they were flying in crashed into a home on Marcus L. Butler Drive in west Jackson.
Homeowner Loretta Jamison escaped through a window after the crash, according to her niece.
"What I found out was that my aunt was home and she heard the sound of the plane coming and it crashes and she jumped out the window," Brenda Williams said.
Jamison suffered minor burns.
Shirley Taylor, who lives across the street from the wreck, says she heard the plane before it crashed.
"I saw the airplane kind of like shaking a little, but I didn't know where it was going," Taylor said.
The owners of the plane are Roger and Michelle Latham from Superior Pallet Company in Flowood.
The plane took off from Hawkins Field Airport shortly after 5 Tuesday night. The group was headed to an FAA safety meeting Raymond.
Shortly after take off, the pilot requested permission from air traffic control to return to the airport. The aircraft was unable to return and crashed, according to the airport authority.
