GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -
Etowah County authorities say that an inmate escaped the county detention facility for 13 minutes today before being returned to the jail.
Antonius Dean Blount, 20 of Gadsden ran from the detention center at 1:52 p.m. Tuesday and was apprehended at 2:05 p.m. He escaped on foot from the North Gate of the Sally Port.
"A mistake was made by my staff and the improper handling of an inmate led to today's escape," Sheriff Todd Entrekin said in a press release. "Corrective actions and appropriate consequences will be handed down to those individuals."However, I am thankful to all who searched for Antonius Blount and took part in his apprehension."
Detention Deputy Dale Hyatt found Blount hiding in a dumpster behind a local pharmacy on Forrest Avenue and 10th Street North.
Blount is being held on a $51,000 bond for first degree robbery and second degree unlawful possession of marijuana. The sheriff's office says additional charges will be filed in light of today's incident.
