PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Phoenix police have a man in custody after he allegedly stabbed a fellow passenger as they got off a city bus in central Phoenix on Tuesday morning.
Witnesses told police the suspect and victim had exchanged words before the stabbing about 7 a.m., said Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department.
Crump said the two had gotten off the bus near the intersection of Central Avenue and Indian School Road near a Phoenix Light Rail station and that the victim was stabbed at least two times, including one wound Crump called severe.
He said other passengers on the bus went to the victim's aid and provided police with a good description of the suspect, who was caught by officers near Steel Indian School Park.
Crump said the victim was in his mid-50s and the suspect in his mid-40s.
He said the suspect wasn't talking and that the victim was so severely wounded it might be a while before police can talk with him.
