BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A Baton Rouge Police officer accused of issuing fake summons to people was fired Friday.
Corporal Derek Burns was arrested in September on 12 counts of forgery, injuring public records and malfeasance in office. He was rearrested last week after police found another victim in the case.
Burns is suspected of forging signatures on numerous misdemeanor summons.
He had been on paid administrative leave while internal affairs investigated. Burns had been on the force for six and a half years.
The criminal charges have been handed over to the District Attorney.
