BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A Bayou Sorrel man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
Jeffrey Smith, 35, admitted that in September 2009, he and two other men bought six guns from Kurtis Gabler Sr.
The firearms had previously been stolen from a Federal Firearms Licensee in Baton Rouge. The weapons were recovered between December 2009 and February 2010 in Bayou Sorrel.
Rex Romig and Brad Rineheart, who Smith said were with him when he bought the guns, have both pled guilty to similar charges. Romig will serve 63 months behind bars. Rineheart will be sentenced later this month.
Stabler pled guilty to possession of stolen firearms and was sentenced to 41 months in prison.
Smith had previously been convicted of two counts of simple burglary in 2003.
