Three statewide races for Alabama voters to decide on

Associated Press
Alabama voters are heading to the polls to fill offices from the White House to the courthouse.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday. The state's chief election official, Secretary of State Beth Chapman, is predicting turnout will be 72 to 74%. That's about the same as four years ago.

Only three contested races are on the ballot statewide: president of the United States, chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, and president of the Public Service Commission. The outcome of those races will determine if any Democrats still hold statewide office in the state. PSC President Lucy Baxley is currently the only Democrat in statewide office. She faces Republican Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh.

Eleven proposed constitutional amendments are also on the ballot statewide.
