ROBERT, LA (WAFB) -
A Ponchatoula woman and her two children have been hospitalized after a two vehicle crash Saturday night. The crash happened just after 8:00 pm on LA 445 at the eastbound I-12 on ramp in Tangipahoa Parish.
Troopers say Nicole Young, 35, was traveling north on LA 445 with her 5-yr-old daughter and 14 yr-old son when a pickup truck, driven by Stephen Herbert Jr., 58, tried to turn left onto the eastbound ramp. The truck crossed into Young's path and she hit the truck on its right side.
Neither Young or her children were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. She was taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. Her children received serious injuries from the crash and had to be airlifted to the Interim LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans. They are listed in critical condition.
Hebert was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash, but upon a sobriety test his blood alcohol level registered above the state's legal limit of 0.08%. He has been booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail and has been charged with 3 counts of 1st Degree Vehicular Negligent Injuring, 2nd Offense DWI and Failure to Yield.
Troopers say additional charges may be possible for both drivers as the investigation continues.
