LIVINGSTON, LA (WAFB) - State Police believe a Covington man was impaired at the time of a fatal crash Friday morning on I-12.
State Police say Clifford Morse, 31, was driving westbound in the right hand lane when he saw a stopped car on the shoulder. When he tried to shift into the left lane, he noticed a Chevy Cavalier already in the left lane. Both Morse and the driver of the Cavalier, Timothy Bower, 33, swerved to avoid a crash.
Bowers' car went into the median and vaulted across the eastbound lane of I-12 before coming to a stop on the shoulder.
According to reports, Morse steered to the right and continued on. Livingston Parish deputies found him a short time later and brought him back to the scene.
Bowers died as a result of his injuries in the crash. Investigators say he was wearing a seatbelt.
Morse was arrested and booked into parish prison for vehicular homicide, DWI, hit and run and improper lane usage.
