NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) -

Crews with some first-hand experience cleaning up after hurricanes are on their way to New York to help with Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.

The Army Corps of Engineers "Unwatering Task Force" from New Orleans will help officials pump billions of gallons of water from flooded parts of the city.

The crew is made up of experts who helped remove 250 billion gallons of water from Orleans, St. Bernard and Jefferson parishes after Hurricane Katrina.

That's enough water to fill the Mercedes-Benz Superdome 267 times.
