SU backup QB Douglas "suspended indefinitely"

JP Douglas JP Douglas
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Southern interim head football coach Dawson Odoms confirms that sophomore quarterback JP Douglas is not on the team "as of today" and that Odoms is "evaluating his situation."

Southern sports information director Chris Jones says Douglas has been "suspended indefinitely" and that this is currently a legal matter between Douglas' attorney and the Southern University legal team. Jones says there will be no further comment from any member of the athletic personnel or staff, including athletic director William Broussard III.

Douglas' attorney tells WAFB-TV that he was removed from the team after meeting with Odoms early Monday morning and that the quarterback still hasn't been given a reason why. The attorney has e-mailed Southern specifically requesting answers for the dismissal but has yet to hear an answer.

The attorney adds Douglas is a great kid that's never been in trouble, currently holding a 3.8 GPA in biology at Southern in their honors college.

Douglas has played only sparingly for the Jaguars this season, completing 16 of 29 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions. As a freshman he shouldered a much bigger load, splitting time with Dray Joseph, hitting 113 out of 212 attempts for 1,544 yards and 13 touchdowns against nine interceptions.
