Police: Former teacher had sexual relationship with student in classroom

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

First there were naked pictures, text messages, and tweets. Now, stunning allegations that a former substitute teacher at Cosby High School not only had sex with an underage student, but did it at the school after hours.

Anna Michelle Walters faces charges of indecent liberties with a child and carnal knowledge. Walters reportedly turned herself over to police, after a sex scandal on Twitter led to real charges in Chesterfield County.

Many of the reported exchanges in the twitter are too graphic to share. They're sent from a man who claims to be a former Cosby High School student who slept with Anna Michelle Walters while she was his teacher.

In this one with "Michelle," it says:

"I like it"

"Of course you do! You're f*%&ing the substitute. That's like you're whole class' fantasy!"

The man also shared naked pictures of a woman he said Walters shared with him. The caption under one photo advises, "@annamichellew: Lesson, don't send naked pics and don't hook up with kids..."

The tweets started an investigation by Chesterfield Police.

"Through our investigation we became aware of other juveniles that were students that she had had contact with and that was the basis of these charges," said Lt. Randy Horowitz with the Chesterfield Police.

Police say they discovered Walters had a handful of relationships with young men at Cosby High School, and this time they weren't former students.

"We've talked to several people that have had a relationship although one might consider inappropriate were not illegal," said Lt. Randy Horowitz.

One case though, led to charges. Police say Anna Michelle Walters had a sexual relationship with an underage student in a school classroom after school hours last year.

"We take any allegation of any inappropriate behavior by a student involving a student or a teacher very seriously," said Horowitz.

Walters will have her first chance to speak up in court on Thursday at 2pm in Chesterfield County.

Chesterfield County Schools issued the following statement:

"The morning of October 12, 2012, Chesterfield County Schools was made aware of an allegation made by a recent graduate regarding a substitute teacher.  Chesterfield County Police were immediately contacted.  An immediate school investigation was conducted and the substitute teacher is no longer employed as of the end of that same day (October 12, 2012).

"As part of the ongoing investigation by the school division of this allegation, information has been received outlining additional allegations.  This information was then shared immediately with Chesterfield County Police as well.

"From the ongoing school division investigation, very serious allegations have been raised and unanswered questions remain. The investigations by the school division and law enforcement have already resulted in arrest warrants. Any additional information that is substantiated will be subject to appropriate employee discipline and potential prosecution.  Any inappropriate contact between an employee and a student will not be tolerated.

"The school division will continue to provide necessary support and counseling services for our affected students.  We encourage our parents and community to continue to provide support to our students in this difficult time.  Anyone with knowledge of this situation or other unreported incidents should contact the Chesterfield County Police Department immediately.

"The school division's investigation continues."
