BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Firefighters from Baton Rouge and St George Fire Departments have extinguished a two alarm house fire on Rue Bienvenue, which is just off Old Hammond Highway, near Jefferson Highway.
The fire started just after 2:30 p.m. Officials say two people were outside the home and one went inside and smelled smoke. She got out and called 911. Officials say two dogs and a cat were rescued when firemen got to the scene.
Officials say the fire started somewhere on the back porch but investigators have not yet determined a cause. The home and it's contents were valued at $1.5 million and it is considered a total loss. Fire fighters had to back out of the interior of the home because the roof began to collapse.
Fire fighters were able to retrieve family photos from the home before they were damaged.
There were no injuries reported.
Red cross was called to the scene to assist the residents.
