LIVINGSTON, LA (WAFB) - A 72-year-old man has been found guilty of forcible rape and faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
William Mallard Dixon, 72, was found guilty in a trial by jury. According to the District Attorney's Office, in November 2011, the victim and Dixon were watching television together in his living room.
Dixon approached the victim and demanded sex. The victim tried to call for help, but Dixon broke her phone before she could reach anyone. Reports say he continued his attack. The victim tried to fight him off, tearing his shirt, but she was overpowered and raped.
After the assault, reports say Dixon aimed a gun at her and said that if she moved, he would kill her. She didn't have a phone or a way to leave until a neighbor stopped by the next day and allowed her to call a friend to come pick her up.
She contacted the sheriff's office and was brought to the hospital for treatment.
DNA evidence collected throughout the investigation corroborated the victim's account of what happened the night of the assault.
The jury deliberated for less than two hours before returning a guilty verdict. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 29, 2012.
