4 pedestrian crashes raise concern on LSU campus

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU students say they're concerned about safety after four students were hit by cars on campus in just two weeks.

Most of the accidents happened when the students were in a crosswalk.

Campus police said they are stepping up enforcement when it comes to traffic and pedestrian safety.

They added it's not just making sure cars are following the speed limit, but also holding pedestrians accountable about crosswalk use.

"When you're going in the crosswalk, don't be on your phone texting and be aware of your surroundings," said Capt. Cory Lalonde with LSUPD. "One of the things we tell in our safety presentations is just because you have the right of way, don't insist on it. Just because you have the right of way, it doesn't make any injuries you sustain any less painful or your recovery faster."

Reportedly, some of the victims in these incidents were hospitalized and the accidents are under investigation by campus police.
