PONCHATOULA, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a 14-year-old boy was taken into custody after school officials reported he had a loaded handgun and knife at a junior high school.
The Ponchatoula Police Chief said the teen attended Ponchatoula Jr. High.
Chief Bry Layrisson said administrators at the school contacted his officers and told them a student was found in possession of weapons.
He added the school staff credited an anonymous tip with the information leading to the discovery of the gun and knife.
They were found just after the school bell rang to start the day.
The teen was booked into the Florida Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
He is charged with carrying a firearm/weapon on school property.
