NEW ORLEANS, LA (WWL-TV) -

Reports indicate a mother confessed to killing her 3-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter after the children were found dead in a bathtub Wednesday.

According to WWL-TV, Chelsea Thornton, 23, of New Orleans was booked with two counts of first-degree murder.

She was ordered held without bond during her initial court appearance Thursday morning.

She suffered from mental disorders and had stopped taking her medication, according to her mother.

The station reported investigators said Thornton admitted to shooting her son and drowning her daughter.

The New Orleans Police Department said the children were found dead in a bathtub in the 3300 block of Audubon Court.

Audubon Court is in an area of New Orleans called Gert Town.

The children were found after 6 p.m.

According to reports, neighbors described Thornton as "friendly and polite."

The investigation is ongoing.
