10 arrested for trying to smuggle drugs into prison

The arrest of two people for trying to smuggle narcotics into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on October 3, 2012 leads to eight more arrests.

Kennie Wascom and Kimberly Blount were the first two arrested on October 3. 

Members of the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division and Detention Center had information about a plan to smuggle drugs into the Livingston Parish Detention Center.

Based on the information, Narcotics Detectives and Corrections Officers set up surveillance around the outer perimeter of the Livingston Parish Detention Center.

On October 3, 2012, the LPSO team saw a woman drop off a man along Charley Watts Road.  The man, carrying a package, entered a nearby wooded area. The LPSO Team saw that man step onto Detention Center property and head toward the outer perimeter fence of the Detention Center. The man was stopped, but resisted arrest. He was taken into custody.

The woman later returned to the area along Charley Watts Road in order to pick up the man she dropped off.  She was arrested and charged.

Narcotics Detectives began an investigation inside the Detention Center. The goal was to discover who was in on the plan to get narcotics inside the facility. Detectives started questioning inmates.

On October 15, 2012, following an extensive investigation, eight inmates were charged for their efforts to attempt to get the seized package of narcotics inside the Detention Center. 

The following were charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute schedule II CDS:

Daniel Ritchie, 35, Walker

Stanley Gunter, 35, Walker

Seth McCarroll, 32, Livingston

Dexter Talbert, 36, Denham Springs

Lloyd Simoneaux, 29, Maurepas

Joseph Blount, 30, Livingston

Sylvester Davenport, 24, Denham Springs

Benjamin Thomas, 33, Livingston

Kennie Wascom, 34, Livingstonis charged as follows:

Entering contraband into penal facility
Resisting officer
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Possession with the intent to distribute schedule II - methamphetamines
Possession with the intent to distribute schedule II - roxycontin  - 2 counts
Possession with the intent to distribute schedule II - hydrocodone
Possession with the intent to distribute schedule II - klonopin

He is currently in the Livingston parish detention center on a $1 million bond.

Kimberly Blount, 29 of Livingston is charged as follows:

Possession of schedule II – methamphetamine
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Principal to possession with the intent to distribute schedule II – methamphetamine
Principal to possession with the intent to distribute schedule II – roxycontin – 2 counts
Principal to possession with the intent to distribute schedule II – hydrocodone
Principal to possession with the intent to distribute schedule II – klonopin

She is currently in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
