Dray Joseph's two touchdown passes and a dominant defense led Southern University past Texas Southern 34-7 in a Southwest Athletic Conference showdown Saturday.
Southern (3-3, 2-2) got off to a fast start. Following a 19-yard field goal by Matthew Hill on the team's first possession, Terrence Clayton Jr.'s 30-yard run on Southern's next possession gave the Jaguars a 10-0 lead. Clayton finished with 57 yards on 12 carries.
Texas Southern (1-6, 1-4) was unable to keep pace, getting outscored 34-0 to begin the game.
Joseph's two second-half touchdown strikes put the game out of reach for the Tigers. 67 and 46-yard bombs to Mike Berry and William Waddel, respectively, made the score 34-0 early in the fourth quarter.
Texas Southern avoided the shutout late as Rudolph Johnson found Jaquaa Peters through the air for a 21-yard touchdown.
