As the Jaguars Nation prepares for a pivotal homecoming contest Saturday against Texas Southern, there are a number of pregame festivities planned for our fans, our sponsors, our university community and our alumni who bleed Columbia Blue and Gold and unite in support of Southern University. Tickets are available at 771-3171, and we encourage patience as we expect phone lines to be tied from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
FACILITIES UPGRADE AND STADIUM MAKEOVER - When fans visit the Southern campus this weekend, they will be greeted by a number of visual enhancements surrounding A.W. Mumford Stadium as well inside the home of the Mighty Jaguars. The stadium bolsters a refreshed Columbia Blue and Gold motif throughout the physical structure of the stadium. Fans can also expect to see a number of graphics outfitting the stadium that celebrate the tradition and passion of Southern Football. Once inside, fans will observe a brand new surface for the SU Track and Field programs complete with highlighted gold exchange zones that serves as the perfect complement to the other visual touches to A.W. Mumford Stadium.
COORS PARTY TRAILER - What's a homecoming celebration without a party trailer. Miller-Coors, the official beer of Southern Athletics, is providing a party trailer that will be stationed near the Northeast entrance of the stadium adjacent to the Mumford Fieldhouse. Coors will furnish the tailgate area to reflect a chic lounge, in conjunction with Alumni Federation Chapters' assistance, perfect for invited special guests to meet and reminisce on their college days on "The Bluff."
SU HUMAN JUKEBOX ALUMNI BAND - No Southern University football game is complete without the high-stepping precision drills and robust musical playlist of the Southern University Marching Band. This Saturday, fans will experience the Human Jukebox times two as the Alumni Band will perform at 5:11 p.m. The Alumni Band, comprised of former members of the Human Jukebox has also been an intricate support group for the marching band, helping to raise funds for scholarships ensuring the future of one of Louisiana's greatest treasures.
SUFAA LEGENDS RECOGNITION - Under the direction of Darryl Hurst, president of the Southern University Football Alumni Association, two prominent former Jaguars will be recognize during pregame of Saturday's game. Isiah Robertson and "Tombstone" Jackson will be honored by SUFAA and will be presented with jersey commemorating their careers at Southern. The framed jerseys will hang in the foyer of the AW Mumford Field House alongside other SU football greats.
EXTENDED HALFTIME SHOW - The Southern University Marching band, under the direction of Lawrence Jackson, will extend its usual seven minute halftime performance to 14 minutes.
SPECIAL NOTES - Gameday parking available adjacent to Southern Lab for $10, and lot will open at 12:30 pm. ¼ mile walk to stadium. All other parking requires reserve parking spot, or free parking available, with shuttle service, for all parking west of E.C. Harrison. Enter on Swan Avenue for reserve or gameday parking, Harding or Mills Avenue for free parking. Arrive early to avoid traffic and hassle. Will Call will open for guests and home team and 3:30 at the north entrances to Mumford Stadium.
Traffic on EC Harrison will be extremely limited beginning at 5 pm Friday extending to 7 am Saturday morning-no parking is allowed, except for drop off of tailgating supplies. No traffic will be allowed after 7 am Saturday morning to set up tailgates, and access to tailgating areas will require walking from reserve or free parking areas. Tailgaters can reclaim their tailgating supplies at any time during the day, but may not permanently park.
Please be in the stadium by 5:20 for a Mumford Stadium first-time appearance by a couple of special guests!
