    Louisiana State Police said I-10 East was closed for a while Tuesday morning due to multiple crashes near Whiskey Bay on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.

Released by the Longview Police Department:

On October 11, 2012 at 10:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to an accident with injuries in the 2900 Block of Estes Parkway. When Officers arrived they were told a 2003 red Honda accord, identified as Hameed Ali Shahzad 25, of Longview, was traveling in the northbound outside lane of traffic. Shahzad's vehicle struck a bicycle ridden by 51 year-old Gary Spruille of Longview. Spruille was riding down the middle of the outside lane on his bicycle. Spruille's bicycle was not equipped with any safety equipment as required by law and Shahzad did not see Spruille in his lane of travel. Spruille was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Sam Lawson. The case remains under investigation.
