MORGAN CITY, LA (WAFB) -
Authorities
have released the name of the man who died after crashing while fleeing sheriff's
deputies Wednesday afternoon.
The
Louisiana State Police said it was called in by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office
to investigate the crash, which left the suspect of a drug investigation dead
and another driver injured.
Troopers
said Irvian Singleton, 44, of Morgan City was pronounced dead at the scene by
the St. Mary Parish Coroner.
According
to LSP, deputies were trying to pull over Singleton for a narcotics
investigation, but he refused to stop the 1995 Mercedes Benz he was driving.
Investigators
said Singleton was on Railroad Avenue approaching Oak Street in Morgan City
when a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by Ronshawna Ruffin, 27, of Vinton was on Oak
Street approaching Railroad Avenue.
They
reported Ruffin turned into the path of Singleton and the cars collided
head-on.
They added
the impact caused the Mercedes Benz to flip and Singleton was not properly
buckled up inside.
Ruffin was
taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Troopers said they have not been
able to determine whether or not she was wearing a seatbelt.
It is also
unknown if either driver was impaired at the time of the crash.
Troopers
are awaiting the results of toxicology tests from the blood samples taken.
The crash
remains under investigation.
