Smoke from sugarcane burning drifts into Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Many people in downtown Baton Rouge are dealing with a hazy situation due to sugarcane burning across the Mississippi River.

The smoky skies and burning smell are the result of sugarcane farmers along US 190 in West Baton Rouge Parish setting their fields on fire as part of their yearly process.

The smoke from the fires can be heavy at times.
