Leader of auto insurance in Chicago announces its support of Illinois House Bill 4906, calling for not denying coverage to drivers for the sole reason that he or she lacks a valid drivers license.

Leader of auto insurance quotes in Illinois, Insurance Navy, announces its support of Illinois HB4906 related to auto insurance coverage and claims of auto insurance for unlicensed drivers in Illinois.

Illinois House Bill 4906 was filed by Representative Maria Antonia Berrios (D) of the 39th District on 1/24/2012. The Bill states that an "insurer issuing a policy of automobile liability insurance listing a driver as insured shall not deny coverage to that driver for the sole reason that he or she lacks a valid drivers license, so long as such person was identified on the application for the policy as an unlicensed driver." On 7/27/2012 the Bill was Re-referred to Rules Committee. after the third reading passed in the Senate.

Fadi Snenneh, Spokesman of Insurance Navy said that "there are tens of thousands of unlicensed individuals in Illinois, most of whom are concentrated in Chicago. These people are not licensed for one reason or another, and insuring these people is an important financial and social necessity."

With an estimated 525,000 illegal immigrants in 2009, Illinois becomes ranked No. 5 among States that have illegal aliens. Most of these undocumented aliens are concentrated in Chicago. Undocumented aliens cannot obtain driver's license. Certain insurers in the past provided coverage for those operators without license, but then refused to pay claims when those drivers were involved in auto accidents, because of lack of license.

"Offering coverage for certain operators does not imply the compliance of the operators with State law regarding licensing," said Mr. Snenneh. "Auto insurance is about paying for damages that are caused by the insured persons including those listed on the policy," Snenneh said.
