An Orange, Texas woman accused of vehicular homicide following an early Sunday morning, single-vehicle accident at the 1500 block of Wright Road in Vinton has been released on bond.

Devon D. Courmier posted the $1,000 bond that was set by Judge Wilford Carter.

According to a news release from Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Commander James McGee, when deputies responded to the Sunday incident, Courmier, the driver, smelled strongly of alcohol.

McGee said the preliminary investigation revealed the truck was traveling northbound on Wright Road and appeared to have run off the road to the right, striking a tree.

Courmier and passenger, David Kurdupski, 24, of Vidor, Texas, were transported to a local hospital where Kurdupski died as a result of his injuries, McGee said.

Courmier, who suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released from the hospital, was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with vehicular homicide; DWI (first offense) and careless operation.

As mandated by state law in all traffic fatalities, a toxicology report will be performed on Courmier, McGee said.

CPSO Cpl. Luke Pierrotti is the lead investigator in this accident.
