The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office has launched "OffenderWatch," a free mapping and notification service that informs residents where registered sex offenders live.
Sheriff Lonnie Greco tells The Times-Picayune that 48 registered sex offenders live in the parish.
The service allows residents to receive email alerts when registered offenders move near addresses they designate when signing up for the service.
Greco said authorities want children to avoid sex offender addresses while trick-or-treating at Halloween.
