A mom in California has been sentenced to 180 days in jail because her kids missed too much school.
According to a report by station KMPH, Lorraine Cuevas is one of the first people to be sentenced under a new state law.
Cuevas' kids, who are in second and third grade, collectively missed 116 school days last year.
The school board says the mother had plenty of warning.
County officials say there are many others currently at risk of the new law.
