BAYOU CORNE, LA (WAFB) -

Officials said more tests are being conducted at the site of the giant sinkhole in southeast Louisiana.

The Assumption Parish Police Jury reported Texas Brine is running a wire line into the cavern to collect a vacuum sample.

The governing body added The Shaw Group, Inc. will be on hand to collect half of the sample and run tests independent of those done by Texas Brine.

Texas Brine reported gas pressure at the observation well remains steady.

Officials added they have not seen any changes in the size or characteristics of the sinkhole.

Crews are making good progress in removing debris from the site, but it is unknown when that process will be finished.

According to officials, evacuee financial assistance checks will be handed out from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
