MADISON COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – A 6-year-old girl is credited with helping her mother after a serious car accident.

Devon Procter remained in critical condition Wednesday at UK Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky while her daughter, Draya, recovered at home.

According to Kentucky State Police, Proctor was driving down Red House Road Tuesday morning when she lost control, went into an embankment and hit a tree head on.

Proctor was knocked unconscious due to the wreck.

Draya, being just 6 years old, knew her mother was in trouble and climbed over her mother and was able to get out of the vehicle and go to the road to flag down help.

"I tried to go get her phone in the car and dial 911, but then I saw her phone was broke so I just got help," Draya explained.

A few neighbors and drivers stopped and led her to safety and called 911.

State police said Draya was surprisingly calm and that her actions may have saved her mother's life.

The 6-year-old said the cross necklace she was wearing given to her by her grandmother kept her safe, "I wish I would have put a cross on momma, so it would have kept her safe."

Draya suffered a burn to her neck from her seat belt, but is expected to be ok.
