Social workers train for BRAVE program

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Area Violence Elimination Plan is one step closer to getting started.

Social workers took part Wednesday in the BRAVE training.

The director of the project says the social workers offer a key resource to turning kids around.

"Now we are training in obtaining structure for all of our social workers' service providers," said Tweety Anny. "These people will provide services such as mentorship, job placement, substance abuse, educational opportunities and such."

The program has three components: law enforcement, social services and the faith-based community.

Baton Rouge received a $1.5 million federal grant to get the program up and running.

The BRAVE program is set to start in November.
