A man was arrested after a woman reported his dog bit her son Monday afternoon.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said Richard Brinlee, 58, of Patterson faces a leash law violation.
Deputies said the mother told them the dog went out of its owner's yard and bit her 12-year-old son on the leg.
The boy was riding his bike at the time.
Deputies reported he was taken to Teche Regional Medical Center for treatment of two puncture wounds.
The boy's condition was not given.
Authorities did not release any details about the dog's breed.
Brinlee was issued a summons to appear in court and released.
Officials said the dog was picked up by animal control for observation.
Once the observation period is over and the dog shows no signs of disease, the owner may collect it.
