Man accused of trying to take synthetic marijuana into jail

FRANKLIN, LA (WAFB) - A man who showed up at jail to serve time on a drug court violation faces additional drug charges after authorities said he was trying to take an illegal substance in with him.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said J'von Smith, 25, of Franklin was arrested Saturday morning.

According to deputies, a pack of synthetic marijuana and a lighter were found on him when he was searched at the jail.

He was booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on charges of introduction of contraband into a penal institution and possession of synthetic cannabinoids (second offense).

Bond had not been set as of Monday morning.
