BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office held its 7th Annual Evening of Remembrance Tuesday night.
It honored 14 victims who have died over the past six years from senseless violence within the parish.
Family members said the memorial provides them the strength they need and helps them move on from the tragedy of losing a loved one.
One of the people who expressed those thoughts was Horace Brue Sr.
His daughter, Allison, was shot and killed.
"To me, it's part of the healing process," Brue explained. "This is the most devastating thing I have ever experienced in my life. It almost broke me and knowing I have Allison's children to raise, that's what gives me strength and courage to continue."
Baton Rouge Area Victims Empowered also hosted the event.
The group helps the family members deal with the loss emotionally and financially.
