Escapee wearing leg cast and handcuffs arrested again

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police arrested a burglary suspect for a second time on Tuesday after the man escaped from their custody earlier in the day.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said Tommy Depedro Wilson, 55, had a soft cast on one foot and he was still handcuffed when he escaped. He was back in custody just after 2:30 p.m. He was arrested, for the second time, near Bynum Street and South 17th Street.

Wilson was riding a bike when he was spotted by a narcotics officer. He was arrested without incident.

He was initially arrested Tuesday morning around 10:30 a.m. for a residential burglary that happened at 8:30 a.m. He was taken to the BRPD precinct on Highland Road.

According to police, Wilson complained of a medical issue and EMS was called to check him out. That is when he made his escape.

Shortly after his escape, Polk Elementary was placed on lockdown and a perimeter was set up at on Nebraska at East Polk.

BRPD officers, K9 officers and the BRPD helicopter were used in the search.

Wilson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for simple burglary, simple escape and theft.
