WASHINGTON, DC (WAFB) - A new study ranks Louisiana as No. 4 in the nation for women murdered by men.

The study, which was conducted by the Violence Policy Center in Washington, DC, stated the Bayou State has a rate of 1.86 per 100,000.

The data is from 2010.

Researchers said the cases are based on one female murder victim and one male offender.

According to the study, Nevada was ranked No. 1 with a rate of 2.62 per 100,000.

Of the top 10 states, six of them are in the South.

The study is released annually for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.
