HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - An inmate who escaped custody after attacking an officer while being transferred from one parish to another but turned himself in a few days later is scheduled to be sentenced on charges related to that incident.

Sedrick Smith, 33, of Greensburg will learn his fate on charges of aggravated escape and battery of a police officer.

He will appear before Judge Ernest Drake.

It is believed Smith broke free of his shackles and attacked the transport deputy on I-55 in Hammond.

He was being taken to the Catahoula Parish Prison from the Tangipahoa Parish Prison.

He then broke the back window and ran away.

It happened on July 21.

He surrendered to US marshals in Livingston Parish on July 29.

He was booked there and then sent back to Tangipahoa Parish.
