LSU Softball unveils fall schedule

From LSU Sports

BATON ROUGE – The LSU softball team revealed its 2012 fall schedule highlighted by an Oct. 19 event where the Tigers will host a stop of the National Pro Fastpitch [NPF] "Back to School" Tour as announced Monday by head coach Beth Torina. Admission is free to all six fall contests at Tiger Park.

"We're very excited about getting back on the field and defending our run to the Women's College World Series," head coach Beth Torina said. "Our players are working extremely hard and making strides during our individual sessions. We're excited about seeing how our players will handle game situations not only on an individual basis but collectively as a team."

LSU faces off with Bellhaven, Lamar, LSU-Eunice and Northwestern State as part of its fall tournament on Oct. 6-7. Two days later, the Tigers will meet McNeese State on Oct. 9 for a doubleheader.

For the second consecutive season, LSU will welcome the NPF All-Stars to Tiger Park on Oct. 19 as part of the league's "Back to School" tour. The NPF All-Stars will consist of players from all four of the NPF's professional teams (Akron Racers, Chicago Bandits, USSSA Florida Pride and Carolina Diamonds) and will include former All-American pitcher Brittany Mack.

LSU finished its inaugural season under Torina a 40-25 record and made the program's third appearance at the Women's College World Series. It marked the 14th time in 16 seasons that the Tigers finished with at least 40 victories since softball was reinstated in 1997.

LSU is slated to return 14 letterwinners for the 2013 campaign sparked by NFCA First-Team All-America Rachele Fico along with All-SEC Freshman pick A.J. Andrews.

It's only one of 82 games, so not time to freak out yet, but the Pelicans looked unimpressive in their 103-91 loss to the Grizzlies. The Pelicans were without the services of Rajon Rondo with a sports hernia injury, and they could of used him. The Pels bench only contributed eight points on the evening. By comparison the Grizzlies bench dropped in 53 points. Boogie Cousins and Anthony Davis combined for 61 points. The rest of the starters for New Orleans, only put up 22 points. ...More >>
