BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities evacuated the Baton Rouge Metro Airport Thursday evening due to a bomb scare. About two and a half hours later, the all clear was given.
The evacuation began just before 5 p.m. Airport Director Anthony Marino says the terminal building and the parking garage were evacuated and sealed off.
A bomb team investigated the airport's parking garage where a caller said a bomb was located. FBI dogs and an EBRSO bomb robot worked to make sure the airport facility was safe.
Officials held a press conference at 8 p.m. Thursday following the evacuation.
"Our emergency plan worked. It took 10 minutes to evacuate the terminal area. No bomb was found. Every building was checked and every parking area was checked," said Chief Anthony Williams with the airport police.
The 400 passengers who were evacuated were being held in the cargo building.
The call came in as a bomb in the parking garage. There are three parking garages with a total of 1,200 cars in them.
The FBI is investigating this incident.
