CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) -
Plans are being finalized to reopen a neighborhood grocery store in Clifton now that the challenges in financing the project have been worked out.
Owner Steve Goessling says getting this store off the ground tested his patience to the limit, but he says his efforts are starting to pay off and the neighbors in Clifton couldn't be happier.
Ludlow Wines owner Mike Anagnoustou says there are a lot of people who have been waiting patiently. "Frankly speaking the day that Steve Goessling opens up his store he's going to be a hero," said Anagnoustou.
Goessling says it's taken a heroic effort to get financing for the 29,000 square foot project in today's environment. "It was extremely difficult because there were several levels of people that needed to be convinced and there's a lot of concern with the financial people....and so you've got to be very convincing that what you're going to do is going to be successful," he said.
There are plenty of people that are willing to support the new store to be called Clifton Gaslight Market. Joanna Thomas says she's looking forward to the convenience. "It means that I can walk to the store. I don't have to drive far away for my groceries and also I can walk everyday instead of buying for a week," said Thomas.
Joanna's husband Thomas says it will reinforce the sense of neighborhood. "We live really close and it's nice to shop where you actually know all the people...not just the people who serve you, but the rest of the customers."
Shawn Riley says having a neighborhood grocer is what attracted him to Clifton. "We've been waiting a long, long time....I mean we really need a grocery here in Clifton," said Riley.
Steve Goessling says he hopes to have the store open by early next year. "Realistically January maybe late January."
Goessling says this store will offer some 20,000 products and a few specialty items he says will be well worth the wait.
